Education
Since 2006, Jim has been designing and leading workshops for all ages, needs and venues. Sessions across the UK have spanned primaries and secondary schools, foundation and degree courses, galleries and museums, as well as libraries, youth clubs, health and community groups. These fun sessions are individually tailored to ensure inclusion and engagement of the full range of participants. In 2015, Jim taught for two weeks on the Graphic Storytelling course at the Animation Workshop, in Viborg, Denmark, and returned there in September 2017.
Jim’s popular Create Comics workshops give participants the basic skills needed in creating sequential art. Visual Literacy is at the centre of all sessions. Groups are enabled to collaboratively produce historical, social, autobiographical and fictional comics, and empowered in self-publishing and ways of reaching larger audiences. Groups also enjoy gaining insight into Jim's published comics, and the ideas, processes and practical considerations behind them.
Interpretation
Jim has worked on numerous successful concepts, illustration, design and family activities for art galleries, museums and heritage projects. Often collaborating with school and community groups, alongside curators, archivists, librarians and education specialists, projects have resulted in exhibits, guides, trails, print and other interpretative material th help viewers and visitors of all ages engage with displays, collections, histories and ideas.
